About the event
A request was made to have a “follow-up” after Wes Novak’s lecture (11/16/24) on the psychology of distress-anguish. Presented were the nature and collective sources for the affect, its crucial presence within the phenomenon of “backed-up” affect, and its camouflaged appearance as represented by the Compass of Distress. For your review, a video recording of the lecture and a separate presentation of its slides will be posted on the website shortly.
The direction of the discussion will be determined by the questions/comments of those present. To stimulate and coordinate conversation, Wes will present a brief review of the above constructs, central to his Tomkins-based model of distress-anguish. Each person has their own implicit model for sensing, knowing, and managing distress in self, other, family, and community. Can our discussion make use of the diversity of this idiosyncratic to learn?
