The Silvan S. Tomkins Grant for Research in the Affective Sciences

Affective Sciences – The Silvan S. Tomkins Grant

Description

The Silvan S. Tomkins Grant for Research in the Affective Sciences is offered by the Tomkins Institute to support publishable research on the processes and functions of affect and emotions. The grant is open to graduate students, faculty, and independent researchers to support research in the affective sciences. Funding is available up to $3000.

Review Criteria

The primary criteria for awarding the grant are related to the quality of the research proposal. Proposals will be rated on the justification for the research contextualized in a cogent literature review, the clarity of the research question, the appropriateness of the research design, and the theoretical or applied importance of the research. Consideration will be given to research that investigates theoretical propositions suggested by Silvan S. Tomkins. Secondary criteria are related to the quality of the applicant, including previous publications or conference presentations, awards won, personal statement, and the letter of recommendation from the research adviser.

Eligibility

Preference will be given to students and/or faculty at an accredited university, but applications from independent researchers will be accepted and held to the same standards of academic rigor, including IRB approval.

Applicants should have demonstrated research competence and commitment to basic or applied affective science.

IRB approval must be received before funding can be awarded if human participants are involved.
