Reading Faces

Recorded 4 October 1976 at Kalamazoo College

In this lecture, Tomkins explains his love affair with the human face, and the relation between facial display and how affect lends value to whatever is associated with it. This presentation, and the one that follows it, resulted from an invitation to Michigan by Rev. David McShane, who preserved them on audiotape. Informally recorded (a consumer cassette recorder set on a chair in the middle of a classroom), this lecture has recently been re-edited for sonic quality by Training Director Jonathan Grindlinger in his personal audio studio and is now remarkably clear.
