Greetings from the Chair:
Hello and welcome to the first of what we intend to be regular e-Newsletters filled with information about the Tomkins Institute (TI) and articles of interest in the areas of Motivation, Emotion, and Cognition. We have undergone a number of changes during the past few months as we strive to make the TI more available to a wider range of interest groups.
For instance, the Board of Directorswelcomed two new members this spring, Nancy MacConnachie and Sue Deppe. Other current Board members are John Fontana, John Brodsky, Jonathan Grindlinger, Lauren Abramson, Mark Tomkins, Jennifer Lock Oman, Daven Morrison, Dave McShane, and Pat Field. The Board thanks Gary David for his invaluable service as co-chair as he steps down to pursue other matters.
We look forward to hearing from you with ideas and suggestions for this e-Newsletter. Below you will find information about the members of our various committees. Please feel free to contact anyone on the Board if you have ideas or concerns about any aspect of the TI. And be sure to keep an eye on our website at www.tomkins.org. Many new doors are opening there.
May your positive affect outweigh your negative,
Vick Kelly
Chair

The Board met for a facilitated weekend retreat in Potomac, Maryland, in late March of 2011. This included orientation, building relationships, lots of visioning work, and organizational planning. Discussions included:
-Many of the administrative functions of the Institute are moving to Fort Worth, Texas, including the web store.
-The Tomkins Institute is planning two future conferences, as noted above.
-DVDs from the fall 2010 Fort Worth conference are being made available as they are produced.
-The Board is working on possible strategic alliances with other groups to try to get the word out about Affect-Script Psychology. We may participate in a conference with one such group, focusing on psychotherapy.
The website www.tomkins.org, is undergoing rapid changes.
-We look forward to an Affect of the Month and lots of “Aha!” moments. What’s yours? Send it to Pat at tomkins@pathfield.com
-As you can see on the homepage, there will be information provided in many topic areas, including a basic primer on ASP, body-mind-spirit, education, parenting, couples, workplaces, restorative practices, and so on.
-Silvan Tomkins’s bibliography is up on the website.
-We have blogs! Vick Kelly is leading off with a blog on couples. There will be blogs on restorative practices, parenting, spirituality, and other topics. Tell us what you think!
